What is Ethereum?
Ethereum is a decentralized, open-source blockchain with smart contract functionality. Ether (ETH) is the native cryptocurrency of the platform. Unlike Bitcoin, Ethereum serves as a platform for decentralized applications (DApps) and DeFi.
History of Ethereum
Proposed in 2013 by Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum went live in 2015. It has since undergone significant upgrades, most notably "The Merge" in 2022, which transitioned the network from Proof-of-Work to a more energy-efficient Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism.
